In February 2019, the European Commission published its intention to identify a new REACH SVHC (of Very High Concern ). The substance, 4-tert-butylphenol (PTBP, CAS 98-54-4), is used as an antioxidant in plastics, particularly in the phenolic/epoxy resins, and as a chemical intermediate in the production of synthetic resins, varnishes, lacquers, adhesives, paints, and as a plasticizers and surface active agent.
In March 2019, ECHA identified three additional potential SVHC including:
- 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(heptafluoropropoxy)propionic acid, its salts and its acyl halides (covering any of their individual isomers and combinations thereof)
- 2-methoxyethyl acetate
- Tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite (TNPP) with ≥ 0.1% w/w of 4-nonylphenol, branched and linear (4-NP)
