In July 2019 ECHA recommended adding the four phthalate substances to the REACH Authorisation list, Annex XIV. These are the same four phthalates that became restricted under RoHS Delegated Directive 2015/863 on July 22, 2019.

In July 2019 EU RoHS Delegated Directive 2015/863 restriction of four phthalate substances went into force. After July 22, 2019, the four phthalates are restricted at a maximum concentration value of .1% homogeneous material weight in electrical and electronic equipment.

In July 2019, the European Court of Justice decided that malfunctioning electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) be included in scope of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
