A new bill was recently introduced into the CA legislature. If passed, it will broaden CA’s RoHS legislation dramatically from a small sub-set of products with screens to a virtual look-alike of the EU’s RoHS Directive. In fact, the proposed legislation cites the EU’s Directive in the section highlighted in red. GCG confirmed that the bill will include B2B products. What it likely means: If passed as is, Electronics and Electrical manufacturing companies will not be able to sell RoHS non-compliant products into the CA market after January 1, 2008. For some companies who were maintaining dual lines of compliant products for the EU and non-compliant products for US/North American market, this could effectively mean a RoHS-conversion for the entire US and North American market.
